The par 4 2nd hole at Wachesaw East is nicknamed “Classic Carolinas”.  It has a very Carolina look to it as golfers stand on the tee box and survey the task ahead.  It is not a long hole but the contours and turn in the fairway make for a demanding tee shot and may take driver out of the hands of many golfers.

The best line to take off the tee on No.2 is down the left side of the fairway.  As long as the ball stays in the left center and the shot does not carry over the mounds and into the rough.  The angle to the green provided by this ball placement is perfect.  There is a bit of carry over a waste area that most golfers should not have to worry about.  The right side of the fairway is lined with trees which makes the line of site tougher to the green if the tee ball is down that side.

Once in the fairway, most golfers will have a mid-iron at most into the green.  In fact, most golfers will have a short iron for the approach.  Aim for the center of the green as the putting surface is mounded and a miss right (which is the typical miss of most amateur golfers) could lead to a ball in the pond that lurks off the right side of the hole. The putting surface is 35 yards deep so pay attention to pin placement.  More aggressive players may want to take a shot at hitting it close to the hole.  The smart play is center of the surface.

The mounds on the green make for some challenging putts.  On a green such as this, it is always best to pay close attention to the slopes and angles that are required to make a good putt.  Par is an excellent score on this demanding hole.  A birdie will pick up a stroke or two on “the field” for sure.
