Getting off to a good start for any round of golf is important.  It gives the player a good feeling about how the round might go and gives confidence for the rest of the round.  At Wachesaw East Plantation getting off to a good start on No. 1 is very important.  The first three holes consist of 2 dog legs and a tough par 5.  A bad start can lead to a big score on the front nine.  Today we will give some tips on how to play the par 4 opening hole.

Not many first holes present as tough a starting tee shot as Wachesaw East.  Most courses like to let golfers ease into the round before presenting a challenge off the tee.  Not Wachesaw East!  The first tee requires a carry over marshland and negotiation of a dog leg left.  YIKES! The white tees play 351 yards and that presents a problem for a lot of golfers.  The smart play is less than driver.  It carries the trouble and hopefully reaches the corner.  This will set up a good look at the green for the second shot.

Most golfers will have a mid to long iron in hand for the approach here.  The green is 30 yards deep so pay attention to the pin placement if trying to get close to the hole.  We recommend hitting a shot to the center of the putting surface.  The green is basically a circle so the result should end up with a decent look at birdie.

Once on the green golfers need to pay attention to the mounding on the surface.  It can be deceiving and leave players scratching their heads after misreading a putt.  Be mindful to make an aggressive stroke but not too aggressive as to roll away from the hole.  A 2-putt par is a great score on this tough opening hole.  Anyone that can walk off this hole and write a par or better on the scorecard is ahead of the game and in great shape for the rest of the front nine.

We have plenty of special rates now that summer is here.  To make a tee time click on the Tee Times tab at the top of the page or call the golf shop at 888.922.0027 and any of our friendly golf shop staff will be more than happy to assist.  Wachesaw East Plantation is a proud member of East Coast Golf Management.
